Sunil Menon’s work for the MSM community in Chennai is unprecedented. In a world that does not accept MSM, he has carved out a road for advocacy, and created a community. He is the founding director of Sahodaran, which has grown to be a stronghold for the LGBT community of Chennai. He has worked to promote MSM awareness, and reduce the risk for HIV transmission for over twenty years. His work has been recognized time and again by NGOs and international organizations. Colorful, and strong, he is both an icon and a father of Chennai’s LGBT community.
JAYA
Jaya is the face of Sahodaran. She initiated her work with Sunil Menon as a peer educator and has worked her way up to the general manager position. Because of this, she has a unique understanding of the MSM community in Chennai, and has personally shaped it. She has worked to make Sahodaran the safe space and powerhouse it is today. Sahodaran, the staff and the community as a whole is her new family. Jaya has dedicated her life to the LGBT community of Chennai, and her work has forever strengthened it.
